The Simmons Press Recorder is a data collection station for recording mounting force (tonnage) against distance when mounting railway wheel set components per AAR requirements. The system also records the date and time of the wheel set mount, operator name, component mounted, axle serial number and type, component serial number, axle seat diameter, interference fit, and spike size (if applicable). The Press Recorder also detects misfits, alerting the operator of the exact defect type so that they can properly route it for correction. This wheel set data is stored locally in a database, and can be recalled using the Search screen in the User Interface Program. If interfaced with a facility supervision system, the data can be used to automatically route the wheel set for further maintenance.
The Press Recorder and its controls are installed in a free-standing enclosure to assure complete freedom from vibration that may occur during mounting operations. The system is available as a standalone unit, or as optional equipment for Simmons' bearing and wheel presses. It is also easily retrofitted to our current product line as well as legacy Niles and Farrel presses.
