Simmons Machine Tool Corporation, together with our sister company Hegenscheidt, offers railway underfloor wheel re-profiling machines for a range of applications such as heavy haul locomotives, high speed trains, streetcars, and light rail vehicles. Simmons' ability to provide underfloor solutions based on milling and lathe technologies gives the customer a choice based on what's best for their particular rolling stock fleet. As all of the machines are pit-mounted, there is no need to remove the wheel sets from the vehicle, which reduces time spent in the maintenance facility.
The Stanray® TN-84C Underfloor Wheel Truing Machine has been the industry standard in heavy haul locomotive and heavy rail transit maintenance facilities throughout North America for decades. The Stanray utilizes full profile milling technology, which manages the most extreme wheel wear conditions. And with the addition of the new M-Series Underfloor Wheel Truing Machines, lighter axle loads such as streetcars and light rail vehicles can be maintained on a Stanray.
Hegenscheidt Underfloor Wheel Lathes are an integral part of transit and commuter railway maintenance facilities around the world. The lathes utilize fully automatic positioning, machining, and measuring processes. The turning technology combined with CNC control and related set-up automation makes it easy to change from one wheel profile to the next. The Hegenscheidt Underfloor Wheel Lathe is available as a U2000-400, or the more economical U2000-150 for lighter axle loads. Both can be configured as tandem systems for machining two wheel sets simultaneously.
